Short Film Research

Before I could start thinking of any ideas, or start looking into examples of short films, I wanted to collect some research into the short film industry. One company I found called 'Future' Shorts' is a very successful and establishing company. They do not create short films, but instead make it their aim to distribute and promote short films. They want to change the view of short films and distribute them worldwide. They show the short films, produced by individual production companies, at festivals.

17 million people have seen shorts films that have been distributed by Future Shorts, this shows how successful they are to their aim, and how they played a key role in making short films as popular as they are in the modern day.
  • In the festivals they bring along props from the films, and allow the audiences to meet the actors, this puts a reality behind short films, and allows people to see how much effort goes into making the film, no matter how short it is.
  • Gus Van Sant is a very successful short film producer and he wors with Future Shorts to help promote short films globally.

  • Future Shorts use the ' Secret Cinema' technique to show their films. This is where they show the films to an audience who have no idea what they are about to watch. A very successful way of keeping the audience focused on the films.

  • Future shorts run festivals over 25 countries and 25 000 go to their festivals each month, this is brining in huge audience and introducing them to the the concept of short films
Here is their Youtube Channel where you can watch mot of the shorts films handed in by individuals. Future Shorts achieves over a million hits a month on Youtube. I have watched a lot of the short films on their Youtube Channel for my own research, and from what I have seen, there has been no films below a professional standard.
